What is Pancreatitis?
Pancreatitis is an inflammatory process of the pancreas. When the pancreas functions correctly, it creates digestive enzymes which are released into the small intestine to begin digestion. Pancreatitis occurs when these enzymes are prematurely activated in the pancreas, essentially digesting the organ, damaging tissue and causing inflammation. The condition can be acute or chronic, causing severe abdominal pain.
No Treatment, No Cure
Because there are no treatments that prevent or stop pancreatitis, the pain and inflammation continue.
Chronic pancreatitis is a progressive degenerative disorder that causes digestive dysfunction, malnutrition, fibrosis, diabetes and a significantly increased risk of pancreatic cancer.
